Privacy Policy

Calow is a calorie & nutrition tracking iOS app (“the App”). This policy explains what data the App processes, where it is stored, and your rights. We believe privacy is a feature — not a compliance checkbox.

1. Information We Store

Calow stores the following on your device and (when you’re signed in to iCloud) in your private iCloud database:

  • Profile information you enter (age, sex, height, weight, goal)
  • Food diary entries, weights, water intake, energy ratings
  • Meal photos you take inside the app (if you use AI photo logging)
  • Progress photos you choose to save (Pro feature)
  • Coach chat messages (Pro feature)

This data is stored in CloudKit’s private database using your Apple ID. We cannot read it. We have no servers that receive or persist this data.

2. Information We Process Server-Side

Some AI features require sending data to external providers, only on your explicit action:

  • OpenRouter (AI gateway) — photos you send for analysis, coach chat messages, and weekly-insight summaries. Requests are not logged by Calow. OpenRouter’s own retention policy applies.
  • Calow food database (paywal.xyz) — queries for food search and barcode lookup. No personally identifiable data is attached.
  • Open Food Facts — public barcode lookup fallback when an item is not in our database.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not use any third-party analytics SDKs
  • We do not track your location
  • We do not read your contacts or photo library beyond what you import
  • We do not sell or share data with advertisers or brands
  • We do not fingerprint your device

4. HealthKit

If you grant permission, Calow can read weight and body-mass data from Apple Health and (optionally) write daily nutrition data to Health. HealthKit data is processed locally; it is never sent to our servers or to any third party. You can revoke access anytime in Settings → Privacy → Health.

5. Notifications

Calow schedules local notifications for meal reminders and your weekly insight. We do not use remote push notifications, so no device tokens are shared with any server.

6. Subscriptions

Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple via the App Store. Entitlement management is handled by RevenueCat (our subscription infrastructure). RevenueCat receives an anonymous user identifier and your purchase status. No diary data is transmitted.

7. Your Rights

Under GDPR, CCPA, and similar frameworks you have the right to access, correct, export, and delete your data. Because Calow stores your data in your own iCloud, you already have direct control:

  • Access / export: all data is visible in the app
  • Delete: Profile → Danger Zone → “Delete all data” wipes every record and propagates through iCloud

8. Children

Calow is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. We’ll bump the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be surfaced in-app.
